Basically I think there's a gap in the market for a place to discuss competitive debating. Less formally than things like the
Monash Debating review, but better than the ad hoc facebook notes and individual people’s blogs that exist at the moment.
I want to focus on articles about Debating the hobby and the culture of debaters, rather than analysis of real world issues, as that is already covered well in lots of places, tournament reports are fine but not the main focus. Think of it as like what you would get if you picked up a magazine for fishing, running, trains etc. articles written in a readable and accessible style that would be of interest to people who share that hobby.
To start with I'm running it as a group blog with a few interested people submitting articles regularly (probably every week or two each). If you would like to contribute email me at JohnWBH@gmail.com and I can add you as an author. We also have a facebook group for background discussion and article planning I can add people to.
In the longer term: I'd like to have a discussion forum with user submitted content and a voting system. (Like subreddits, or Lesswrong.com). But thats beyond my technical abilities for the moment, and I want to see what the response is like before investing a great deal of time and effort. Ideally in the long term it would be more or less self sustaining with people submitting their own content.
Your thoughts and comments appreciated,
John
